Cupping is a therapy that has been practiced around the world for thousands of years. The concept is based on the theory of creating a vacuum to lift the layers of tissue to break adhesions, remove toxins and increase circulation to the affected area. Suction can be varied and the therapy itself is remarkably comfortable, sometimes even more so than massage therapy.
Traditional Chinese Cupping is the application of stationary glass cups over areas of adhesions, using flame to heat the inside of the cup to create suction. This treatment is combined with therapeutic massage.
Remedial cupping is the use of many different types of cups, rubber, silicone, magnetic and air pump cups to target specific problem areas. This treatment is also combined with deep tissue massage.
Cupping therapy can leave marks for anywhere from 2-7 days post treatment. Be aware that these marks are NOT bruises, but toxin being removed through the skin. They can be red, black or purple in color and will fade slowly without turning yellow or green. They may or may not be tender to the touch.
